VISUAL TRIGGER

Mia looks outside the window, at the pouring rain. Holding up her hands to her face, they smell of blood. She opens the window and washes her hands in the rain.
“God is forgiving me. God is giving me a second chance. God is asking me to start anew. Come, let us go and find Doreen. She’s in the backyard… …” Mia whispers to the doll that sits on her lap gently.
Doreen was crying so loudly just now that Mia thought she was whining. Mia was sick of all the abuses that she silently accepted from her employer. Mia warned her before. Mia told her before that she came to Singapore for nothing but money and pleaded with her to be kind to her. Mia cooked for the family, washed their laundry, cleaned their car, tidied their rooms. In fact, Mia tried to smile every single day to show that she was happy though she was really drained out inside her. That was when it all started. Mia wanted to put an end to Doreen, something so dear to her employer. Mia’s lips touched Doreen’s beautiful curls lightly and with all her might, she pushed down the pillow over the pretty face. The room became very quiet and the air was still.
Mia continues to dig at the spot where she buried little Doreen. It was just below these lovely Birds Of Paradise that she buried her. She must be there somewhere. She manages a weak smile when a lock of Doreen’s beautiful curls are revealed from beneath the soil. Just as she is about to say her prayers for Doreen, she hears footsteps fading into the darkness. Mia turns her head and she sees tiny footprints in the direction of the woods. There is only one person with that small footprints and it has got to be Brandon. Suddenly, it all becomes vivid to her, sometimes things that are done cannot be undone. Mia grabs the shover and heads for the woods. God is on her side, she believes. Brandon has to die. God is merciful, he lets the two innocents souls reunites in the other realm.

  1. You have crafted an engaging story about a woman who is driven by annoyance to do something she would otherwise not. Well done.
